I don’t think I’d name any bike “Chicken Salad” but it’ll have to do for this nice, short xs650 custom.
A longer xs650. Not at all a salad.
Bobbers come from all over. Honda Hawk. Srsly.
Even cuter. Honda Rebel Custom.

So many children’s book seem best designed to give children nightmares. The whole cat in the hat thing weirded me out for months. But really — nothing compared to these drawings done by Gojin Ishihara for Japanese children’s books. Japan has the best monsters under the bed (or coming out of the ceiling)
I’m not sure I’m going to buy the idea of a luxury Sharpie but this new stainless steel model *is* pretty fly.
The Urban Sketchers will be convening in Portland this weekend for their first international meet up. Saturday July 31st is the 28th annual world-wide sketch crawl. And in case you’ve forgotten why you should be on the lookout, here’s a quick couple of watercolors of the CA coast line from Marc Holm.
Marco Zamora. Pen and ink washes with windows of color. Urban scenes through a prism.
Dive. James Jean made the image and pressureprinting did the intaglio prints. The walk through of what it takes to make a 36 x 23 print will explain the $2000 price tag.
Boy wants to meet girl. Girl is ignoring boy. Boy gets a little help from the fellow down the street. Thing is, boy is a graffiti. A little live action, a little stop motion, a whole lot of Greek charm.
With Game Over spelled out on it’s tank sides, this bike by the Navel Factory can only be said to hulk. But the details are lovely. The cut away speedo for one.
True love. Seriously. The guy built this sweet Norton for his girlfriend. That just screams marriage material all over it.
Not very good quality video but I just love listening to the commentary. Catalina 1954.
Society and Culture
I’m sadden to have just discovered Neither More Nor Less at the end of it’s run. Images and stories from the real world of the East Willage. A daily diary of a small part of our world written and photographed every day for 4 years. It’s over now. Take a look back at one man paying careful attention.

Columbarium is a good dictionary word. It’s also a wise and compassionate way to deal with our dead. Tin-Sun But is a proposed columbarium for the bay of Hong Kong.
Pripayat was evacuated in May 1986. Told it would just be for a little while, the 50,000 residents took only a few days worth of clothes and a handful of personal items with them. Sitting along side all of the belongings that were left behind, these new images now live on the walls of the homes, offices, and factories that they left. Note that the article is wrong — most of these images were created by trespassers in the last 10 years not by the fleeing residents 20+ years ago. That doesn’t make the images any less effective.
Animals full of whimsy. (Rowers on a whale tail? A sheep made out of scissors?)
just pretend it’s Monday y’all
